The Racers are best remembered for being the launchpad of the legendary careers of Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier, even though they didn't play together in Indy.
The Racers shared the Market Square Arena with the Indiana Pacers basketball club, but disbanded in 1979 along with the WHA teams not named the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques or Winnipeg Jets.

Woo hoo! I miss the racers, if i had enought money, I would buy a minor league hockey franchise and call it the racers! viva the WHA! I also was a Hartford Whalers fan before they were moved to NC.
